Bait box

Finding the perfect bait is not an exact science.

Of course different sizes and species of fish prefer different bait items but the weather and river conditions can also influence what is most successful on a particular day.

It is therefore necessary to have a variety of bait to enable you to be prepared for all scenarios. 
Tinned sweetcorn

Some bait items commonly used to catch River Ancholme fish include;
 
• Human food
Bread – discs, bread crumbs 
Luncheon meet, sweet corn

• Dog biscuits

• Worms
Coloured maggots
Dendrobaena
Lob worms
   
• Maggots

Mixed colours

• Dead bait
Sardines, herring, lamprey, squid

Ground bait balls

• Ground bait

• Live bait
Using live bait (small fish from the river) is banned on the River Ancholme (Scunthorpe and District Angling Association).

Most bait items can be purchased from the Brigg Angling Centre. Experienced staff are approachable and able to offer advice.

The town also has a Tesco and Lidl supermarket where you will be able to find food items.
